Street photography workshops

It’s true – the most interesting photo opportunities often appear when you least expect them. My street photography workshops will help you develop the mindset and skills you’ll need to meet those moments with confidence, so when they do come along, you’ll be ready to capture whatever chance puts in front of you.

Why join my workshop?

At a time when AI can instantly create images from a simple keyboard prompt, putting on a pair of comfy shoes and walking the streets with a camera – not really knowing what you might find – feels like an act of rebellion. That spirit of curiosity and being present is at the heart of my workshops. The aim is to playfully embrace new ways of noticing what draws you in, wherever you are.

Whether you're just starting out in street photography, looking to sharpen your skills, or feeling the need to replenish your creative fuel tank, these small-group workshops are designed to guide and challenge you. I’ll share my approach to staying open, curious, and relaxed on the streets, along with practical ways to explore a scene and uncover unexpected images. You’ll also learn how to imagine and anticipate events as they unfold, and spot opportunities others might miss – even in quiet, ordinary moments.

By the end of the workshop, I hope you’ll walk away with fresh eyes for the beauty in everyday moments, a deeper sense of creative confidence, and a set of techniques you can use to capture good photographs every time you step out with your camera. If this sounds like something you'd like to explore, I’d be happy for you to join us.

Experience Brighton

In April 2025, Time Out named Brighton the UK’s most walkable city – and the third most walkable city in the world, after Abu Dhabi and Boston. From the alternative streets of North Laine to the winding alleys of the The Lanes, the iconic Brighton Palace Pier, the beach, and the weekend markets, Brighton is a perfect destination for street photography.

Please read the terms and conditions before booking a place.

  • No prior experience is necessary. The workshop is designed for all levels, from beginners to experienced photographers looking to refresh their skills or find new inspiration.es here

  • Any digital camera will do – DSLR, mirrorless, or even a compact camera. The important thing is that you're comfortable using it. Bring a spare battery and a couple of memory cards.

  • Yes. You’ll receive a portfolio review before the workshop and feedback throughout the sessions, including a final image review on the last day.ption

  • Street photography is all about embracing unpredictability – and that includes the weather! We’ll still shoot outdoors (within reason), and we’ll make the most of rainy conditions. Bring a raincoat, just in case.

  • We’ll be walking quite a bit throughout Brighton, but at a relaxed pace. If you have any concerns about mobility or stamina, feel free to contact me to talk that through in advance.

  • The price includes the pre-workshop online session, the full two-day workshop experience, portfolio review, hands-on coaching, and feedback sessions. Travel, meals, and accommodation are not included. I recommend booking your accommodation sooner rather than later – Brighton is a popular destination for weekend breaks in the summer months.

  • To keep things personal and hands-on, group sizes are small – usually around 6 to 8 participants.

“The most powerful thing of all is Chris' insistence that it is essential, not just OK, but essential that we go out and make mistakes. If you're not making mistakes and shooting some rubbish, you are probably not being brave and bold enough. Combine that philosophy with the ability to spot the gold and encourage participants down that route and you have something magical.”

“Within these two days I learned a lot about photography in general and the path I want to take. Out of this workshop arose two long-term projects. One I pursue every day (as it’s very low key) and another one I have to make time for.”

“Spent a great couple of days on a 1-to-1 workshop with Chris in Brighton. Chris really knows his stuff and is passionate about photography and helping his students get the most from his workshops. I came away with a lot of great tips which I now use in my photography as well as some great photos. Would definitely recommend!”
